Getting to Know Your Golf Clubs Part 3

Which clubs are the easiest to use?
Medium Irons

Sometimes refered to as Mid-Irons or Medium Irons, these are the clubs that will enable you to hit the ball 'medium' distances, and are normally those clubs numbered 4, 5 & 6. As with the long irons, the number is relevant to the length of the club and the angle of loft. Most average golfers will find they can hit the ball a lot easier and get a lot better distance using the 4, 5 & 6 clubs than the longer irons.

This is generally because these aren't quite so long and feel much more comfortable in the hands. Another reason is that because of the slightly shorter length you will stand that much closer to the ball when you strike it, and you don't have to 'reach' so much to make good contact, this is especially relevant to the 5 & 6 irons.

We'll have a look at the shorter irons in part 4. These are the clubs that will win or lose you a match in the blink of an eye so need special attention.
